Omake is now open in Studio City

Omake opened on Ventura Blvd on September 25, after a build-out that started in the spring.^{1, 4} It's two ideas behind one door. One side is an everyday coffee bar, for a quick cup on the way to work. The other is a guided coffee tasting, omakase style, where a barista walks you through each cup and where it came from.² The name is Japanese for "extra", which their own account describes as the small detail you didn't expect.³ The owner, Iskuhi Kalantaryan, calls the whole place a "teleport into the now".⁴

What's on the menu

Omake pulls coffee from several roasters, but the list is short on purpose: each coffee is picked from a different roaster and origin rather than rotated for variety.² The signature drinks on the opening menu are:^{2, 5}

• Immersion Cortado, made with barrel-aged beans and served with a bite of halva.
• Sol, an iced latte with Madagascar vanilla, a passionfruit cream top and bee pollen.
• Dew, matcha under a mascarpone cream top.
• Eve, espresso and tonic with butterfly pea flower, peach, sea buckthorn and toasted rosemary.

There are also specialty pour-overs, batch brew and cold brew. We haven't been yet, so this is the menu as reported by the first people through the door. We can't wait to go for the tasting. We'll report back.

The tasting side
